Does going Green mean we have to buy furniture made in the jungle??
Fighting the Carbon Footprint is a great way to save Mother Earth but a sofa made from vines and twigs doesn't sound very appealing, unless your Tarzan!

On a serious note, retailers at some point will need to find ways to eliminate that footprint with the materials used for furniture and where the furniture is being made. A lot of furniture is manufactured overseas. One reason is the labor cost, but that is a whole other blog at a later date! Furniture made overseas is shipped here via container vessels. Further more, we actually ship the raw materials there first, then to be shipped back to America. No wonder the cost of new furniture is priced CRAZY in stores!

While we should all do our best to lower the Carbon Footprint, it is better to eliminate it all together. A positive step is to buy local made, gently used consigned furniture from a Furniture Consignment Store. Buying used furniture you don't really like to save the environment won't make you feel better in the long run, but buying good quality furniture that usually comes with a great deal, will be a win-win for the buyer and Mother Earth.
